Dr. Sergi Ballespí
I am professor of Personality, Assessment and Psychological Treatment in the Faculty of Psychology of UAB. I supervise students in the PhD in Clinical and Health Psychology program.
From my perspective, mental health should not be taken care of only when a disorder is present. To help people work on mental health when we have a disorder is crucial, but it means working under conditions of heightened impairment and distress. The earlier in the continuum of mental health that we focus intervention, the higher the return will be. My main research interests are to explore factors of salutogenesis in the continuum of mental ill-health, the efficacy of interventions to improve the socio-emotional environment where children grow up, and to find innovative ways to transfer active ingredients of psychological treatments from the clinical setting to the community. Mentalization is a universal human capacity with a key role in salutogenesis. Fostering mentalization not only in clinical treatments but also in child and adolescent communities might help children to grow up with better social and emotional skills. This may lead them to become healthier adults able to transfer this knowledge to the next generation. This is the iMentalize project. Are you interested in contribuiting to psychological research along the developmental spectrum, too? PhD program applications are open to work in this project. Publications. |
